Allan Bank - Grasmere
August 20, 2013 Local Area
Last week we took friends to visit Allan Bank at Grasmere, a National Trust property in need of work and at the moment open to all to just wander through and enjoy the situation and the history. Until work begins the rooms are filled with information and activities for everyone to enjoy and as it was a drizzly day it was full of families painting masterpieces to be hung in frames on the walls, typing poems on the old typewriters, learning to knit, reading in the library of old mountaineering books, playing board games or just sitting at the bay windows with a cup of tea and home made cake, listening to a jazz quartet playing in the hall. The atmosphere was of a large family gathering with members pleasantly passing the day together but in their own quiet way - it was quite extraordinary!
